After a lifetime of commitment and dedication to his family, friends and community Carl H. Green died Sept. 25, 2005 at a local care facility at the age of 96.
Carl was born, raised and educated in his native Stockholm, Sweden. At the age of 20, after success as a bookkeeper, he decided to immigrate to America. He traveled by ship through the Panama Canal, then up to San Francisco where he landed in March of 1929.
A friend met him in San Francisco and took him to Stirling City where he was employed in the Diamond Match saw mill as a millwright and mechanic until he moved to Chico in 1933. He worked for Butte Tractor Co the Caterpillar agency and soon became office manager. In 1935 he married Margaret Lindsay and together they opened Green's Stationary store (Later Sierra Stationary) and later Green's Printing.
At the start of World War II Carl volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps and flew 23 missions in B-17's from England. He was wounded and received a Purple Heart among other service medals. After the war Carl returned to Chico, selling the stationary store and expanding the printing business. Eventually Green's would merge with three other printers in the area to form Quad-Co Printing, a well known business in our community.
