Dick was the postmaster at Berger MO during the Civil War. Shortly after the Civil War he went into the hotel business, and operated hotels at New Haven MO and Chamois MO before moving to Washington MO in Sep 1892. In Washington he purchased the Commercial Hotel, and owned it until his death. Died from pneumonia after breaking his right hip in a fall in his room at the Commercial Hotel. Survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
