He was born in Lincoln County son of the late Benjamin F. Shelton, Sr. and Carrie Keever Shelton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Russell Shelton.
He was a member of Alexis Baptist Church where he served in numerous church positions. He also served as music director for 22 years at Lakeview Baptist Church in McAdenville.
He is survived by his wife, Daphna Stroupe Shelton; one sister, Ruth Hawkins and husband Raymond of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two brothers, Sam Shelton and wife Frances of Alexis, Bobby Shelton and wife Charlotte, of Alexis, and a number of nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Shelton will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at the Alexis Baptist Church with Reverend Sandy Marks and Reverend Malcolm Ivey, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.
