OPDYKE

Russell R. Roeder, 73, of Opdyke and late of Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor, died at 5:55 p.m. Aug. 13, 1991, at Crossroads Community Hospital.
Mr. Roeder was employedd in material control at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in decatur until retirement; he later was with the maintenance department of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376 in Mt. Vernon.
He was born January 18, 1918 in Jefferson County, a son of Charles E. and Nellie Mae (Dorris) Roeder. He married Nadine Newton in Jackson, Mo. On May 6, 1971 in Mt. Vernon he married Ruth Bumpus Schwenninger, who survives.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. Burial will follow at New Shiloh Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Roeder is survived by two sons, Ronald Ray Roeder and wife Shirley of Lakewood, and Donald and wife Rhonda of Georgetown; one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Polley of Willow Springs, one step-son Donald Schwenninger and wife Mavis, of Opdyke, two brothers, Derrell and Virgil Roeder, both of Woodlawn, two sisters, Mrs. Vivian Pigg and Mrs. Imogene Grant both of Mt. Vernon, 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one step granddaughter, Rina Gai Schwenninger; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Roeder was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 141 and VFW Post 1376 of Mt. Vernon. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
