Ike and Pearl lived in Dallas in one of his father's houses after they got married. Pearl returned to Athens so the family doctor, old Dr. Hodge, could deliver her first child but when Hubert was born Dr. Hodge was out of town and another doctor had to deliver him. Ike and Pearl moved with his parents to Stephens Co., TX when Martin Miller sold his property in Dallas and purchased a section of land in Stephens Co. Martin and several of his married children moved onto this property on Jan. 1, 1907 and most of the family lived in tents till houses were built. This is where Cleo and Lee Roy were born while the family lived in Stephens Co. After a real bad drought in Stephens Co., Ike sold his entire crop for twenty five cents. This was about the time Ike decided to move his family back to Athens sometime between late 1910 or 1911 and into Pearl's parents vacant home place. They traveled by covered wagon, stopping at various farms along their route spending their nights under the shelter of the farmer's barn.

The Montgomery home place is believed to be the location where the next two children were born into the family, Robert Nelson in 1912 and Maggie Lorraine in 1914. Some time after 1914, a storm traveled through Henderson County which lifted the Montgomery family's home off of it's block foundation. Cleo remembered climbing out of the house through the fireplace opening. This was the time Ike moved his family closer into Athens to Wood St. This is probably where Maggie passed away in Feb. 1917 and Homer T. was born that May.

It was sometime after Homer's birth that Ike bought the Miller home place northeast of Athens. Hubert said he quit school to help his dad pay the mortgage. Steve was born in 1921 and Ike Jr. in 1925. Sometime before 1927, the family was settling in for the night and were lighting their oil lamps when all the sudden the flame traveled down the wick into the oil of the lamp. Homer, about 8 or 9, was told to throw the lamp out the door but in haste hit the door frame instead causing the lamp to explode, setting the house on fire. Hubert was courting Cleo and was returning back to Athens on north Highway 19 when they spotted the smoke from his family's house on fire.

Ike went to work at the Henderson County Court House as a janitor. He was still working there on Oct. 18, 1941, when Bob, working for Texas Power & Lt. Co, drove his dad home for lunch while making a house call but before Bob returned Ike decided to walk back instead. Ike was found dead on the railroad tracks from an apparent heart attack.
