Albert J. Allard served as a Private in Company B, 2nd Battalion of the 17th United States Infantry Regiment in the American Civil War.

He was either killed in action or mortally wounded on July 2, 1863, the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg.

His regiment was involved in the fighting around Little Round Top late in the day of July 2.

At the time of his reinterment in the Soldiers' National Cemetery, he was buried as an "Unknown," along with six other soldiers from his company.
