CARLTON C. BAHAN
Carlton C. Bahan of Jackson Crossing Road, Pownal, an electrician at the General Cable Corp. in Pownal, and past president of the local electrical workers' employee union, died Thursday at the age of 64 at Putnam Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 pm at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Floyd I. La Bombard, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Bennington, officiating.
Entombment will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery vault, Bennington, pending burial in White Chapel Cemetery, Bennington, in the spring.
The family will be in attendance at the funeral home tonigt from 7 to 9 and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will be conducted by Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1233 at 7:30 pm at the funeral home.
A native of Shushan, N.Y., he was born March 5, 1911 to Harris W. and Grace E.(Horton) Bahan, moved with his family to Bennington in 1914 and received his education in the local schools. In earlier years he was employed at Twin State Electric Co. at the substation on Woodford Road and also as night foreman at the Brush Back plant on North Street. Long active in union affairs, he had served on the union grievance committee at General Cable.
He was a longtime member and former governor of Loyal Order of Moose lodge 1233 and a member and former head of the Home Guards in Bennington.
His first wife, the former Anna M. Brown, whom he married in 1933, died Jan 21, 1966. He leaves his widow, the former Fannie Provan Rogers, whom he married in May 1967; three sons and a daughter, John, Robert and Anne Greene, all of Bennington and Kenneth of Essex Junction; a step daughter, Mrs. Harold Gangloff of Pownal Center; three grandsons, three granddaughters, one great grandson; three brothers, Harris of South Shaftsbury, Ralph of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. and Milton of East Poultney, four sisters, Jaska Elwell of Hoosick Falls, Flavilla Elwell of Bennington, Minerva Shartrand of North Adams, Mass. and Alberta Malec of Northville, N.Y., cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Pownal Rescue Squad or the Vermont chapter of the American Cancer Society.
