Obituary (Yates Center (KS) News, Feb. 15, 1907)- John Martin Schoepflin was born July 7th, 1836, at Ammendsingen, Great Dukedum, Baden, Germany and departed this life at Yates Center, Kansas Feb. 11th, 1907 aged 70 years, 8 months, 4 days. He imigrated to Penn. with his parents when he was about 7 years of age. Later they removed to Stephens(on) Co. Ill., and again from there to Iowa. Previous to this, on the 27 day of May 1858 he was married to Miss Christina Schreiber. Nine children were born to them, eight of whom are still living and present at the funeral of the father. In the spring of 1864 he with his family came to Kansas and located in Douglas co., after having lived there for 22 years he became a resident of Woodson Co., having lived here since 1893. Mr. Schoepflin gave his heart and life to God when he was about 15 years of age. At the same time he became of member of the Evangelical church of which he was a faithful member to the end. He loved the church of his choice and served her to the best of his ability. Mr. Schoepflin was at the time of his death assessor of the city of Yates Center and was a man of good business judgement and had the respect and confidence of a large circle of friends and acquaintances. The funeral was held at the German Evangelical church on Thursday at 10 o'clock a.m. conducted by Rev. Wolthausen. The remains were buried in the Yates Center cemetery.
