Arthur F. Roethel, 81, of the town of Herman, a veteran of World War I, died at his home this morning after a lengthy illness. A retired Herman farmer, he was born May 5, 1891, in the town of Meeme, Manitowoc County, son of the late Fred and Anna Schreiber Roethel. He attended Pigeon River District School in Meeme. Mr. Roethel was employed at Ehnert Co. in Kiel prior to his service in World War I. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Schwartzwald, in Herman, and of World War I Barracks, Sheboygan.
On Nov. 27, 1926, he married Lydia Laux of the town of Schleswig. The couple lived on a farm in Schleswig for six years, before purchasing a farmstead in Herman on Highway 32, where they lived ever since. He retired from farming in 1956, and later worked for Osthof's and Pine Point resorts at Elkhart Lake for four years.
Surviving are his wife; a son Ardon, Herman; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Harold Reineck and Miss Emma Roethel, both of Sheboygan; Mrs. Anna Pfeffekorn of Manitowoc, and Mrs. Gilbert Henschel, Kiel, and a brother, Herbert Roethel, Kiel. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
