Hilda Roethel, 81, a former town of Meeme resident, died Friday afternoon at the Sheboygan Retirement Home, where she had resided the past seven months.
The former Hilda Simonsmeier was born June 28, 1904 in the town of Herman, a daughter of the late Herman and Augusta Duckow Simonsmeier. She attended district school in the town of Herman.
On Nov. 18, 1922 she was married to Oscar Roethel at Saron United Church of Christ in the town of Sheboygan Falls. They farmed the Roethel homestead farm in the town of Meeme until their retirement in 1964. He preceded her in death in 1972.
She was a member of St. John’s United church of Christ in the town of Herman, and the Ladies Aid Society of the church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Orville (Doris) Knoener, Route 1, Elkhart Lake; one son, Earl, Route 1, Newton; four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Ella Bohne, Manitowoc. She was preceded in death by one son and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at St. John’s United Church of Christ in the town of Herman, with the Rev. Dean Roy Miller, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
