Funeral services for Oscar C. Roethel, 73, of R. 1 Newton, a retired Town of Meeme farmer and insurance company official who died Friday, will be held at St. John United Church of Christ at Schwartzwald. The Rev. Dean Roy Miller, pastor, and the Rev. William Bender, pastor of Immanuel UCC, town of Herman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Roethel was president of M.P.R. and Lakeland Insurance Co. in 1957 and had been a director since 1949. He also served as a Town of Meeme supervisor since 1961 and was a member of St. John UCC and its brotherhood, the Ada Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the church's consistory and the district school board.
Mr. Roethel was born Jan. 13, 1899, in the town of Meeme, a son of the late Henry and Elizie Schultz Roethel. He attended district school. On Nov. 18, 1922, he married Hilda Simonsmeier at Saron UCC in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. The couple resided on the Roethel home farm until retiring in 1964.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Orville (Doris) Knoener of R. 1, Cleveland; a son, Earl, R. 1 Newton; four grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. George Feldmann, rural Plymouth, Mrs. Henry Mauk of rural Elkhart Lake, Mrs. Norbert Grunewald of Howards Grove and Mrs. Henry Biskobing of Sheboygan; and four brothers, George of rural Cleveland, Hugo of Oostburg, Reinhold, Kiel and Arvin of Sheboygan.
