Mrs. Henry Roethel, 86, widow of a former Town of Meeme, Manitowoc
County, farmer, died early today at the Sheboygan home of her son-
in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mr. Henry E. Biskobing, 803 High Ave.
She had been in failing health for a year.
The former Eliese Schulz, she was born March 27, 1870, in the Town
of Schleswig, a daughter of the late Albert and Mathilda Zorn Schulz.
She was confirmed June 2, 1884, at Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Schleswig, by the Rev. Martin Denninger.
Her marriage to Mr. Roethel took place in Sheboygan County, Dec. 10,
1895, following which the couple farmed in Meeme. Mr. Roethel died
in December, 1932.
Mrs. Roethel was an active member of St. John Evangelical and Reformed
Congregation, Schwartzwald.
Surviving are five sons, George and Oscar of Meeme, Hugo of Oostburg,
Reinhold of Meeme and Arvin of Rt. 1, Oostburg; two daughters, Mrs.
Norbert (Hertha) Grunewald of Howards Grove and Mrs. (Hildegard)
Biskobing; three stepchildren, Mrs. George (Frieda) Feldman, Mrs.
Henry (Emma) Mauk and John Roethel of Sheboygan Falls.
Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one
great-great grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. Augusta Kumpff of Rt.
1, Kiel, and Mrs. Martha Strassburg of Evansville, Wis.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a step-
daughter and several sisters and brothers.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John Church,
Schwartzwald, with the Rev. Edward Hennig, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, from Friday
afternoon until 11 a.m. Saturday and at the church until the hour
of services.
