OCEAN SPRINGS -- Joseph D. Finnerty, 84, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Finnerty was born Feb. 9, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a graduate of St. Peters College in Jersey City, N.J., where he received a bachelor of science degree. He was employed with the War Department as a pioneer radar operator and instructor and graduated from Fleet Sonar School in Key West, Fla. He was a lieutenant in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was employed with Civil Service as an instructor at Boca Raton, Fla., and Keesler Air Force Base. He retired in August 1970. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and a former member of the Sunkist Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Mary Frances Finnerty; and two brothers, James Finnerty and Thomas Finnerty.
A private service will be held by the family with burial in Biloxi National Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
