John Albert Capling, 81 pioneer resident of 909 Main Street, Saskatoon, died recently in a Saskatoon hospital after a long illness. Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Agnew was held in Saskatoon Funeral Home chapel and burial with Masonic rites made in Woodlawn cemetery. Mr. Capling was born in Perth County, Ontario and came west to a homestead at Wiseton in 1906 where he resided until his retirement to Saskatoon in 1949. A keen supporter of farmers' movements in the early days, he was secretary of the local Grain Grower's Association and attended many of the Regina conventions of that body in its formative days. He also travelled extensively in his home area organizing locals for the Co-operative Elevator and later the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. An ardent Liberal, he helped in many campaigns as speaker through the district and was president of the Wiseton Liberals for a number of years, and was chairman of the Wiseton Victory Loan committee. He had also served on the Almonte school board for some time, and was past master of Dinston Lodge A.F. and A.M. of Dinsmore. Having been present at the province's inauguration ceremonies in Regina in 1905, he took a lively interest in the Jubilee commemorations in 1955 and wrote several articles for the papers descriptive of his family's pioneer experiences. Mr. Capling is survived by his widow, Clara; one daughter, Ethel, Mrs. W. A. Downs, Wiseton; one son, Cyril, Wiseton; one brother, James, Markham, Ont; and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hammer, Wolesley, Ont.
