Eva Elizabeth Brehm was born December 02, 1859 in the German settlement of Norka, Saratov, Russia. Her parents were Peter Brehm and Anna Margaretha Hohnstein, both of Norka. Elizabeth married Johann Conrad Jager on January 22, 1880 in Norka, and they had a daughter named Dorothea in 1886. John Conrad Yager died in 1889, and Elizabeth was married second to Conrad Claus on March 25, 1890 in Norka. When they married, Conrad had 6 children from his first marriage that were ages 1-1/2 to 14, and he and Eva had 6 more children. Conrad, Elizabeth, and 7 children are on the passenger list of the Augusta Victoria, which left Hamburg, Germany on July 10, 1891 and arrived in New York City, NY on July 20, 1890. The obit of Conrad's daughter Katie states that the family lived in Sutton, Clay Co., NE for 6 months, and then came to Grand Island, Hall Co., NE. On the 1896 marriage record of Conrad's daughter Dora, her last name is spelled CLOUSE, and this spelling is used for Conrad and most of his children last name on the majority of later records. The family is listed on the June 9, 1900 census of Kearney, Buffalo Co., NE, but on the census taken June 18, 1900 of Grand Island, Hall Co., NE Conrad & his sons Adam & John are also listed in the household of his married daughter Katie Claus Schleicher. The family moved from Nebraska to Colorado in 1902. Their married daughter Dora Claus had a child born in Colorado in 1902, and by January 16, 1904, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Klaus are listed as founding members of the German Congregational Church in Windsor, Weld, Colorado. Conrad & Elisabeth are on the 1910, 1920 & 1930 censuses of Windsor, Weld Co., CO. Conrad's obit states that the family farmed near Windsor from 1902 to 1917, and then moved to Windsor. Conrad Claus/Clouse died on November 20, 1931 in Windsor, Weld Co., CO. Elizabeth died on May 21, 1933 in Windsor, Weld Co., CO. Conrad & Elizabeth are both buried in the Lakeview Cemetery, Windsor, Weld Co., Colorado with the last name spelled Clouse.
