Mary Katherine Brug

Mary Katherine Brug, 92, of Windsor Health Care Facility died Dec. 8.

She was born Feb. 10, 1885 in Denhoff, Russia. On Aug. 21, 1904 she married George Brug in Denhoff. They immigrated from Russia to Windsor on March 4, 1913 where they became citizens of the United States.

In Windsor, the Brugs were charter members of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, which was established in 1914. Mrs. Brug was a member of The Brotherhood of Faith United Church of Christ.

Mrs. Brug was well known for her “Trip Around the World” quilt pattern and was actively involved in quilting until a few months ago.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Katherine; a son, Philip Brug; and her husband, George Brug, who died in March 1969.

Survivors include a son, George Brug Jr.; a daughter, Effie Brug; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Philip (Lydia) Brug, all of Windsor; four granddaughters, Mrs. Wilbert (Ruth) Firestien of Windsor, Mrs. Arden (Phyllis) Derr of Ault, Mrs. Richard (Kathleen) Moore of Denver and Sandra Brug of Windsor; 10 great-grandchildren, five nephews and four nieces.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at Faith United Church of Christ with Rev. Jacob Grether officiating. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery.

A Mary Brug Memorial Fund has been established. Memorials may be sent to the Bussell Funeral Home in Windsor.
