spent his life in Plainfield arriving w/parents at age of 2 yrs; attended school of Rev. Moses Hallock and studied medicine with Dr. Peter Byrant of Cummington, father of Wm. Cullen Bryant; attended medical lectures in Boston 1819-1820; became Dr. Bryant's partner in practice until Bryant's death; married Bryant's daughter Sarah; licenced for practice of medicine 1821; was active practicing until 1854 when he was thrown from a carriage, the shock from which he never fully recovered; was tenderly cared for by his daughters in his declining years; prominent in town affairs, 8 yrs Selectman; forty years a member of the Mass.
