born in Eastern Mass.; was one of the earliest settlers [of Plainfield]; service in the Revolutionary army; an educated man...prominent in church and town affairs; one of the first two deacons chosen Nov 15, 1792; taught school in winter for many years; a fine singer, organized and led the 1st choir, taught singing schools in this and adjoining towns; was held in high esteem by the towns-people and his opinion on any public questions had the effect of law; Selectman in 1790 and served 21 years; Town Clerk 1797 for four yrs; rep of the District and of Cummington in General Court in 1793, '98, and 1801, 03, and 05; sent as Plainfield's rep in 1811, '12 and '16; delegate to the Convention for Revising the Constituion in Nov 1820; commissioned Justice of the Peace in 1802 and served 28 yrs; was totally blind for some years previous to his death.
