Mellissa's father, Thomas Jaggers, was married two times.

Neither the name of his first wife nor the date of their marriage is known.

The 1900 Census shows that Thomas was the head of the household consisting of himself, his wife Celia, his children, and his stepchildren. The Census shows that Thomas and Celia were married in 1899.

The children of Thomas were identified in the 1900 Census as Mellissia Jaggers (11), Minnie B. Jaggers (9), Birtha D. Jaggers (4), Lewis P. Jaggers (1), and Elnora Jaggers (0). The mother of the first four of these children was the first wife (name unknown) of Thomas. The last child named, Elnora, was the daughter of Thomas and his second wife, Celia.

The stepchildren of Thomas were identified in the 1900 Census as Fannie H. Logsden (13), James R. Logsden (9), Martha J. Logsden (7), and McClelland Logsden (6). The parents of these children were John Logsdon and Celia Clapton Logsdon.

Both the obituary and the death certificate for Mellissa identify Cordelia ("Celia") Logsdon as Mellissa's mother, rather than as her stepmother. It is unknown whether or not Mellissa was legally adopted by Celia. Because no adoption record has been found, no link has been made in this memorial to identify Celia as the mother of Mellissa.
