William D. "Bill" Bigsby
PAYSON, Ill. -- William D. "Bill" Bigsby, 76, of 108 S. Main, Payson, died at 8:37 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 27, 2011) in Blessing Hospital.

He was born July 29, 1934, in Derry Township, a son of Homer E. and Ruth C. Triplett Bigsby. On April 14, 1979, he married Emma Darlene Sittler in Bushnell. She died July 9, 2009.

Bill worked for McDonnell Douglas in the 1960s in California. He was a mechanic for Grays Chevrolet in Pittsfield for many years, and worked at the water plant in Bushnell. He was also employed by Summy Tire in Quincy.

Bill was a member of Akers Chapel Christian Church and attended Faith Christian Church. He had a 1929 F20 Farmall tractor that he liked to drive in parades, and he was an avid NASCAR fan, and liked the races at Scotties. William enjoyed bluegrass music.

Survivors include his daughter, Shelby (Russell) Emele of San Diego; his son, Bill (Darcy) Bigsby of Quincy; his stepdaughter, Vickie (Ken) Armstrong of Pleasant Hill; a sister, Barbara Bigsby of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Emma, he was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Debby Sidwell and Lois Waters, and ex-wife, Phyllis Roberts.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Monday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Pratt officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery in Atlas, Ill.

VISITATION: 4-6 p.m. today in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
