93, of 305 Garrett, Sherrard, Ill., formerly of Galesburg, died 1:15 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at her home.
Alice was born July 31, 1917 in Little York, Ill. to Charles B. and Nellie Ortery McCullough. She married Robert S. McCreight December 26, 1941 in Carthage, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Surviving is a son, David B. McCreight of Sherrard, a daughter, Elizabeth (Jim) House of Clearwater, Kan., a sister, Ruth Oaks of Monmouth, Ill., a sister-in-law, Margaret McCreight of Sioux City, Iowa, three step sons, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and three brothers.
Alice was a registered nurse working private duty and at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was a visiting nurse at the former Galesburg State Research Hospital. She was also District #205 School Nurse. She retired in 1970 and then moved to Sherrard, Ill. She graduated from Galesburg High School, Cottage School of Nursing in 1941 and Bradley University, Peoria, Ill. in 1963. She was a member of Sherrard Community Presbyterian Church and Miniature Quilt Group in Aledo, Ill. She was a former member of Knox and Mercer County Home Extensions, Mississippi Valley Quilters' Guild, Mercer County Quilters' Guild and Cottage Hospital Guild. During WWII she taught Red Cross Nurses Aides and worked with volunteer groups making cancer dressings. She enjoyed piecing quilts, needlework, Big Band music and an avid Cubs fan.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
