Mrs. Carrie Cain Kouns was born June 14, 1862, in Wetumpka, Alabama. Her father was Col. W.G. Gain of Tyler. She married C.W. Kouns on June 10, 1884, in Tyler.
Mrs. Kouns died April 2, 1910, at her home in Amarillo of acute indigestion. Surviving children were two daughters and a son. One of the children, Sarah, was attending school in Munich, Germany. Other survivers were a brother, Ben B. Cain of Dallas; and a sister, Mrs. L.L. Jester of Tyler. (Daily Courier-Times April 2, 1910)
