John C. Pangborn Obituary

John C. Pangborn died at his home, on the Terrace at 9:30 Christmas Eve.
The Hagerstown industrialist, prominent Catholic layman, and civic leader was 75 years old. He had been in ill health for some time.
He was co-founder of Pangborn Corporation and until his death he served as vice chairman of the corporation board and of the Pangborn Foundation.
Mr. John, as he was affectionately called by hundreds of friends and associates, was a Papal Knight of Malta, and honor bestowed on him by the late Pope Pius Xll.
He held honorary degrees of Doctor of Laws from both St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. and Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg.
Mr. Pangborn was very active as a member of St. Mary's Church here, serving as a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Holy Name Society.
He belonged to the Hagerstown Rotary Club and Hagerstown Lodge of Elks.
Born in LeRoy, Minnesota, Mr. Pangborn was a son of the late Charles Thomas and Anna Morris Pangborn. He moved to Hagerstown in 1912.
He is survived by his wife, Olive (Rau) Pangborn; a son, John C. Pangborn Jr.; three grandchildren; and a brother Thomas W. Pangborn.
The body was taken to the Suter-Rouzer Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at Mr. Pangborn's home, 817 The Terrace, on Sunday between 3 and 7 p.m. The Rosary will be said at the home Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
A Solemn Requiem Mass will be offered by Most Rev. Jerome D. Sebastian, Auxiliary Bishop of the Baltimore Archdiocese, Monday morning at 11 o'clock at St. Mary's Church here.

Burial will be made in Rose Hill Cemetery.
