The Rev. (Orion) Ray A Womer, 84, Rowlett, Texas, died Thursday, April 2, 1992, at lake Point Hospital, Rowlett.
The son of Robert S. and Iva E. Flegal Womer, he was born June 5, 1907, in Philipsburg.
Rev. Womer served on the executive board of minister training for the Allegheny Conference and was dean of junior high camp at Camp Allegheny for many years. He was also secretary for the Board of Ministry at Union, as well as conference youth director, member of the education committee, Allegheny Conference auditor and member of the Allegheny and Western Pennsylvania Conferences’ nominating committees.
A 1925 graduate of Philipsburg High School and a 1932 graduate of Otterbein College, he also attended the University of Pittsburg from 1947 to 1954.
Rev. Womer has pastured in Richfield, 1934; Houserville 194-43; Beaver Falls, 1954-54; Paradise 1954-57; Calvary United Methodist, Oil City, 1957-67; and Portage, 1967-73.
He retired July 31, 1973, and was named associate pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, Indiana, until 1986, when he was named pastor emeritus.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine E. Miller Womer; three sons: Albert S., South Fork; Philip O., Titusville; and Joseph R., Oil City; two daughters, Iva L. Williams, Rowlett, Texas, and Patricia McFarland, Polk; 19 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren; a brother George, Philipsburg; and a sister Mary Reeser, Marion, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and two brothers, R Stewart and Frank Leroy Womer.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 pm today at the Morrison Funeral Home, Oil City. Friends will also be received at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Oil City, from 10-11am, the day of services. The Reverends Ralph Solida, pastor at Calvary United, and Jack Patterson, pastor at Grace United will officiate. Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery, Oil City.
