C. Lynn Stiles

The death of Cassius Lynn Stiles, a prominent resident of the town of Middlefield, near this village, died very unexpectedly at his home on the Middlefield Center road, Monday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock from an attack of angina pectoris.

Mr. Stiles, who was regarded as having mad a good recovery from an attack of pleurisy with which he had suffered since the holidays, was seized with a heart attack while at Hotaling's barber shop in Cooperstown. Dr. H. L. Cruttenden was called and the patient rallied under the treatment and returned to his home, but expired shortly after his arrival.

Mr. Stiles was the son of Wilber and Amanda (Brown) Stiles, and was born in Cherry Valley, November 30, 1871. His entire life was spent in that town and in Middlefield. For a period of twenty-two years he had served as a rural mail carrier from the Cooperstown post office and would have been retired under the age limit next November. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Cooperstown, of the Whig Corners Community Club and of the Otsego County Rural Letter Carriers' Association. A citizen of sterling character, a public servant of remarkable efficiency and strict devotion to duty, his passing will be felt with keen regret by a wide circle of friends.

December 24, 1902, Mr. Stiles was united in marriage with Miss Esther L. Gano of Westville, who survives, together with two sons, Elbert W. Stiles, at home, and Letson P. Stiles of Middlefield; one sister, Mrs. Cora Ferns of Hartwick and two grandchildren, Lawrence and Letson P. Stiles, Jr.

The funeral was held from the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. H.M. Pease, pastor of the First Baptist church of Cooperstown, officiating and burial was made in the cemetery at Westville.
