Birth Notes: Two different state of births have been claimed for William. 3 census sources for Alabama and two for Georgia. Year of birth has been claimed as 1825, 1826 (assumed to be from Mary Edgar) others are from census, 1828, 1829, 1831, and the Sayre Doxey cemetery index is listing 1873 birth year with a death year as 1960. There is a Fred Maddox listed with DOD of 1914 in the cemetery index.
It is now assumed the above information was incorrectly used in the past to change the Find A Grave record from one person into another person. It appears a son's burial (or another person's burial) was changed incorrectly to look like his father's burial. No record has been found that William's father was buried in the same cemetery and the person buried next to William is Elbert and not his father. The Sayre Doxey Cemetery index is showing the burial as:
Maddoux William L. 1873 1960
An Oklahoma State Death Index was found with only one person with the name William Maddoux for any death year (although index is less complete for early years) that died in Oklahoma and the death was in Beckham County. This is who it is assume is buried in the cemetery and this FAG record should not belong to someone born in the 1820s or 1830s. Record has been updated to match Cemetery index and Oklahoma State Death Index.
