Sgt. Co. F, 8 Texas Cavalry (Terry Rangers); Pvt., Dixie Grays Volunteer Company of Infantry

The Rabb Family had lived in Fayette County longer than just about anybody. They were here nearly 20 years before the county was even established. John Wesley's grandparents, William and Mary Smalley Rabb arrived in 1821, and two years later his mother and father and his brothers and sisters and their families came to Fayette County too. They were originally from La Grange, Fayette County Pennsylvania. John Wesley Rabb was born in a log cabin on the prairie that bears the family name (Rabb's Prairie). It was Valentine's Day of 1833 that he was born, being the 5th child of John and Mary Rabb. They all lived a little north of La Grange near the Colorado River at a place know as Indian Hill. This information is from the Heritage & History Cemetery Tour Sponsored by the Anchor Club of La Grange.
