Former Plainfield Resident Succumbs
Rites in New Jersey

Mrs. W. A. Rushton received word this week of the death of her niece, Mrs. Mary Hiss MacAulay of Hadden Heights, New Jersey, who passed away Saturday at the hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mrs. MacAuley [sic] was born in Plainfield, the daughter of of the late William and Lillie Mills Hiss. She was graduated from the old Central Academy [Danville, Hendricks County, Indiana] in 1913 and from Earlham College [Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana] in 1917. She went to New York to the Library School in 1918. She taught French in the Academy here and worked in the Plainfield library, probably being the first librarian to go on the Book Wagon out of Plainfield and all around the country. She was librarian in Camden and Haddon Heights, New Jersey. In 1929 she was married to Howard MacAulay who survives. She was a member of the Plainfield Friends church. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Haddon Heights with burial in Birchwood Cemetery there. Survivors besides the husband include two sisters, Mrs. Owen Ely of Manhasset, New York, and Mrs. C. B. Spaulding of San Diego, California; and one brother, Philip Hiss of Floral Park, New York.
