George Washington Toney was the son of Jonathon Toney and Elizabeth Caperton Toney Elizabeth was the daughter of Captain Hugh Caperton and Rhoda Sturgen Caperton. Birth: September 14, 1830, Glen Lyn, Giles County, Virginia.
George Washington Toney was born and raised in the house built by his grandfather John Toney. It was the first brick house located in Glyn Lynn Virginia. To the rear of the home was the Toney family Cemetery which was also known as Hells Gate Cemetery. It was the original burial site of Mary Porter who was killed by Indians during an Indian raid in the area.
George died on September 13, 1911 in Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia.
His occupation was that of a farmer, also harvesting Ginseng from the foothills of the Virginia mountains.

His sister , Rhoda Hale, left two portraits of Captain Hugh and Overton Caperton to him when she died.
George fought in the civil war, and was a member of the Logan's Wildcat Company which became Co. D. Of the 36th Virginia Regiment
