Mrs. Gracie Ward Dies At Childress


CHILDRESS, Tex. (Special) - Mrs. Gracie Gertrude Ward, 88, died at her home here Thursday. She had been seriously ill for two years.


Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Newberry Chapel, conducted by Rev. Burgin Watkins, pastor of First Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Childress Cemetery.


Mrs. Ward, widow of the late A.D. Ward, was born Oct. 8, 1875, in Pennsylvania and was a member of the First Methodist Church. She and her husband came here from Amarillo in 1908. He was a Fort Worth and Denver Railway engineer. She had been active in the Burlington Veterans Auxiliary.


Survivors are on son, Joe Ward of West Plains, Mo.; two grandsons, Arch Tom Ward of West Plains and Joe Henry Ward of Dallas; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Grace Ward and son, of Childress, Texas, have visited friends here the past week. Mrs. Ward is a sister to Mrs. U.J. LaMotte. It is 16 years since she visited in the North. Mrs. Ward was formerly from Glen Rock, where an uncle, Mr. Harpel [sic] resides.


Twenty six persons were entertained Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. U.J. LaMotte. The LaMotte home is always a hospitable one where friends and guests receive cordial welcome. Royal entertainment was furnished the gusts Sunday and an exceedingly pleasant day was enjoyed by all.
