Bertha was was the oldest of five children born to Carson and LeOra Lowe Taylor. She was born Apr. 10, 1929 in the Arthur Taylor home in Paris, Idaho. Her four younger siblings were Clyde Carson, Merlyn, Cleone, and Twayne Lamont.

Her father later bought the Budge home on the hill in Paris, where she spent her childhood. She attended the Emerson Elementary School in Paris and graduated from Fielding High School.

As the oldest child, she had responsibilities to watch out for her younger siblings and help with household chores.

After graduation from high school, she met Frank Jay Bartlome, who had recently returned from army service. She married Frank June 17, 1947 in the Idaho Falls Temple in Bonneville County, Idaho.

For a time the couple lived in Paris in the hotel while their new home was being built in Montpelier, Idaho. They were blessed with three sons: Reed Jay born June 6, 1949, Don Ray born Apr. 18, 1954, both in Montpelier, and Michael born Oct. 31, 1958 in Logan, Utah.

Bertha was a good homemaker, keeping the house spotless and cooking nutritious meals for her family. While Frank worked for the State Road, she was involved in handwork when she wasn't busy with children's needs. Her family came first and was well-cared-for.

She like to read, work in the yard, and do handicrafts. She also enjoyed traveling after her family was raised. I went with her and Frank on an African Safari in 1994. By that time, Frank had been diagnosed with cancer and was giving himself shots for treatment of the cancer he had.

Her husband Frank died June 3, 1997 in the Montpelier Hospital leaving Bertha alone. After burying her husband in the Montpelier Cemetery, she hardly ever left Bear Lake Valley and stayed pretty much to herself.

She was suddenly taken ill and went to the Montpelier Memorial Hospital on her own where she passed away Aug. 10, 2007. She was a member of the LDS Church. Her funeral was held in the Montpelier 2nd Ward and she was buried beside her husband in the Montpelier Cemetery.

She was survived by her sons, Reeds J. (Gloria) of West Valley City, Utah; Don R. (RaNae) of Preston, Idaho; Michael D. (Kari) of South Jordan, Utah; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; siblings, Clyde (Arline) Taylor of Paris; Cleone (Ron) Peterson of Montpelier; Merlyn Cook of Myton, Utah; Twayne (JoAnn) Taylor of Montpelier.
