John Abplanalp, born Canton Berne, Switzerland, crashed through hatchway at Belser's Brewery and was killed; leaves wife and five children, age 42.
A native of Switzerland. Emigrated from Havre de Grace 20 April 1852; arrived New York 6 June 1856. Naturalized 14 Oct 1856.

When first photographed this marker was found tightly lodged behind a tree, and could not be budged.
When photographed the second time, we found that someone had removed the marker from behind the tree and in the process, a chunk of the marker had been broken off.
