Mrs. Linda J. Burrus, wife of Edward B. Burrus an daughter of Capt. A. W. and Mrs. Pearlie Simpson died at her home at Cape Hatteras on Tuesday May 28th in the 24th year of her age. Mrs. Burrus was a sweet gentle Christian woman whose tenderness of heart could never permit the torture of any living creature. She was converted and joined the Methodist church when about ten years of age and lived a most exemplary Christian life. An attack of la grippe resulting in consumption and death claimed this dutiful daughter, affectionate sister, and faithful companion as a victim, in the seeming strength of womanhood's most glorious period. Her father, well known as the blind Light House Keeper, visited his daughter on the 26th of April and left her on the first of May. The father could not see his beloved daughter but it was a melancholy pleasure to be near her and hear her voice (Fisherman & Farmer, Edenton, NC June 06, 1901)
