Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Graduated from the USMA in 1836. Served the entire length of the Civil War in the US Army Corps of Engineers. First served as a Major and Assistant to the Chief Topographical Engineer, then as a Lieutenant Colonel and Assistant to the US Army Chief Engineer. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Regular Army on March 13, 1865 for "meritorious services during the war". He eventually advanced to Colonel, US Regular Army after the war, dying while still on active duty in 1878.
