He'd earned his master's degree and doctorate at Northwestern University, according to the announcement.
Prior to assuming the presidency, he was the anatomy chair at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where he also earned his medical degree.
A memorial service has been scheduled for Harrison at 11 a.m. Friday at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church at 9200 Inwood Road in Dallas.
