Edith Roblez Melendez, age 65, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, died at her home in Midvale on February 21, 1990.
She was born February 14, 1925 in Sargents, Colorado to Nicolas and Desideria Santiago Roblez.
On January 19, 1946, she married Gerardo Melendez in Bingham Canyon, Utah.
She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and active in both civic and community affairs including, civic leader in Hispanic Community, Jordan School District Cultural Awareness founder, former member Utah State Division of Contractors Advisory Board and Outreach Director for Utah State Food Stamp Program, Founding member SOCIO (Spanish Organization for Community, Integrity and Opportunity), received outstanding service to Veterans of Utah award, member of Utah Housing Authority, former advisor to University of Utah College of Sciences program for Ethnic Affairs, member of Utah State Democratic Women's Society; she served on the Governor's Hispanic Council under Governor Scott Matheson, and was recognized as one of the outstanding civic leaders by Governor Scott Matheson.
Survived by her husband, Gerardo, Midvale; mother, Desideria Roblez, Midvale; sons, Michael Melendez, M.D., Salt Lake City; Eugene Melendez, Midvale; Robert Melendez, West Valley City; daughters, Rosa Davis, Seattle, Washington; Margie Melendez, Spanish Fork, Utah; seven grandchildren; brothers, Elias Roblez, Midvale; Victor Roblez, Salt Lake City; Dick Roblez, Fresno, California; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret DeLaTorres and Constance Gonzales and her father, Nicolas Roblez.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 24, 1990 at 10 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 75 East Lennox Street, Midvale. A vigil service will be held on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Therese Church. Friends may call for a visitation at the Church on Friday from 6-7:30 p.m. Burial was made at Midvale City Cemetery.
