Vernald R. Samuelson, age 84, a longtime resident of the Cannon Falls area passed away at his home on Thursday afternoon, January 27, 2011.
Vernald was born in Red Wing on May 8, 1926 to Victor and Myrtle (Johnson) Samuelson. He graduated from Cannon Falls High School and later married Elaine C. Swanson on September 7, 1951 at Spring Garden Lutheran Church. He was a life-long member of Vasa Lutheran Church. Vernald farmed all of his life in Vasa Township up until his retirement. He loved farming, his Brown Swiss cows and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of over 59 years Elaine of Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing; son, Rick Samuelson of rural Cannon Falls; daughters, Kristal (Robert) Swanson of rural Cannon Falls and Kathryn (Lowell) Peterson of Farmington; seven grandchildren, Cora (Harold) Jones of Savannah, GA, Lindsay (Mike) Collins of Kaneohe, HI, Laura Swanson of Savannah, GA, Britta (Mike) Pahl of Apple Valley, Katrina Peterson, Mikkel Peterson and Samuel Peterson, all of Farmington; brother, Myron Samuelson of Vasa; aunt, Clara Samuelson of Cannon Falls; and many other extended family, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Myrtle Samuelson.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Vasa Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kristi Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at church. Interment will be held following the service at Vasa Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Vasa Lutheran Church.
Active pallbearers will be Bob Samuelson, Gary Samuelson, Dennis Samuelson, Jerry Swanson, Robert Swanson and Lowell Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Albrecht, Bob Beissel and his friends from morning coffee.
