SERVICES HELD FOR ZACHARIAH EVANS BROWN,
FORMER PRESIDENT OF NEW ZEALAND TEMPLE

The funeral was held Wednesday for Zachariah Evans Brown, 90, former president of the New Zealand Temple and businessman, who died Dec. 16, 1990, of natural causes in LDS Hospital.

The services were held in the Grant 4th Ward chapel in Salt Lake City, and burial was in the Midvale City Cemetery.

Mr. Brown, who served as temple president from 1968 to 1971, was born June 16, 1900, in South Jordan, Utah. He worked 32 years for Safeway stores as a store manager and district manager.

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he had been a high priest group leader in the Boise (Idaho) Idaho, Stake, and bishop for 5 1/2 years in the Grant 4th Ward, Grant Stake. He was a temple worker for 38 years.

''Zach'' Brown, age 90, passed away December 16, 1990, in Salt Lake City.

Born June 16, 1900, in South Jordan, Utah, to Silas and Emma Evans Brown. Married Erva Newbold on November 10, 1920. This marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on May 14, 1945. Later married Marion Foster Lyon on April 20, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He worked 32 years for Safeway Stores as a store manager and district manager. LDS Church service includes High Priest Quorum president, president of the New Zealand Temple with his wife Marion as matron, and bishop. He was a temple worker for 38 years, but his greatest calling was that of being a father and grandfather. He was loved by all who knew him.

Survived by his wife, Marion; sons, Darrell Z. (wife Dorothy), L. Ray (wife Kathleen); daughters, Erva Dean Dastrup (husband Kent), and Donna Faye Coates (husband Ralph); 15 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by a sister, Virginia Milne. Preceded in death by a grandson, Brent Coates, a brother, John Silas Brown, and two sisters, Phoebe Brown and Emma Player.

Funeral services Wednesday, December 19, 1 p.m., in the Grant 4th Ward Chapel, 1111 E. Charlton Ave. (2810 So.) Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and Wednesday at the ward from 11:30-12:45 p.m. Interment in the Midvale City Cemetery.
