Ronald James Lee, 63, of Waverly, formerly of Ottumwa, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly.
Ron was born Nov. 10, 1947, in Ottumwa, the son of James and Mary Lucille(Miller)Lee. He graduated from Hedrick Community School in May of 1968 and from the Universal Trade School, Omaha, Neb., in 1969. On Jan. 30, 1965, he was united in marriage to Vicki Hayes in Hedrick. The couple moved to Waverly in 1977. Ron worked as a janitor at Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools from 1981-87 and then began his trucking career. He drove for W.H. Transportation from 1987 to 2003 and Roadready Transportation from 2003 until his retirement in 2008. Ron has been associated with the Waverly Fire Department since 1981 as a firefighter and social member. He was a member of the Iowa State Firemen's Association and past member of the Hedrick Volunteer Fire Department.
Ron thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports. He was a big Green Bay Packers fan, as well as a Chicago Bulls and NASCAR fan.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki of Waverly; two sons, Mark(Lisa)Lee of Lafayette, Ind., and Kevin(Dawn) Lee of Waverly; parents, James and Mary Lucille Lee of Hedrick; sister, Barbara(San)Swain of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Christopher, Anthony, Katie and Kendra Lee, and Dalton and Cayde Lee. He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be 10am Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Deborah Wise officiating. Burial will be in the McCormick Cemetery, Ottumwa. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and for one hour prior to srvices at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
