Chico Record, Friday Morning, November 5, 1920, pg 1 col 5: Brother of Mrs. S. Benton Is Killed by Falling Log. William H. Butler, brother of Mrs. S. Benton of Chico, was accidentally killed by a falling log in the Tuolumne Lumber Co. camp on Nov. 1. The funeral took place in Chico and the interment was held in the local cemetery. At Carmel-By-The Sea, where he spent a number of years, memorial services were held at the hour of the funeral.

Butler was the son of Josiah and Elizabeth Butler, born in Damascus, O., February 29, 1876. He moved with his parents, to Barclay, Kans. In 1835, where he grew to manhood, always taking an active interest in the Friends Church. Upon graduation from high school he entered college at Quincy, Ill., and was graduated from that institution in 1896, centering the mercantile business in Quincy.

Coming to California in 1909, he made his home for seven years at Carmel-By-The Sea, where he made friends by the score. Since 1916, he has been living in Tuolumne county, where he was employed at the time of his death.

He is survived by his father, Josiah Butler, of Lenora, Ill., a brother, F.J. Butler, of West Branch, Ia., and a sister, Mrs. S. Benton of Chico.
