Israel Stoddard also known as Israel Isaac Stoddard in many family records was born at Plattsburg, New Jersey (Now known as Sykesville). He married Sarah in 1823. The had nine children, seven sons and 2 daughters; Mary, Charles Henry, Rebecca, William, George Platt (Platte), John Keen, Joseph E, Frederick A, and Alma.
Israel and Sarah became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint in 1840. They left to join other members of the church in Nauvoo. In their travels they lost two children John Keen aged 14 months, and Mary aged 19. After arriving in Nauvoo they lost Joseph E. aged 1 and 1/2.
While in Nauvoo their child Charles Henry was employeed by Joseph Smith.
In 1846, the family was driven out of Nauvoo by mobs. The new baby Alma died on the river bank. Soon after Alma died, Isaac and Sarah died on the same river bank.
