Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Loleta Mae Tipton Spears was born January 6, 1914, in Garnett, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Mamie (Wieland) Tipton. She died Wednesday, November 16, 1994, at the Westwood Nursing Center in Clinton at the age of 80. She was united in marriage to Otto M. Amy in 1934, and to this union six daughters were born. He preceded her in death. During World War II, she was a welder on L.S.T. carriers. She lived in New Albany, Indiana, before moving to Clinton in 1952. In 1954, she married Leonard Spears, who preceded her in death January 13, 1975. She was a homemaker and loved her home and her family. Her hobby was working with crafts. She was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by six daughters, Shirley Stevenson, Ottawa, Kansas, Nancy Skaggs and Joyce Harrison, both of Clinton, Jackie Nichols, Lowry City, Betty Teter, Garnett, Kansas, and Mary Bionez, Pleasanton, California; four sisters Jerry Hughes, Betty DeLozier and Barbara Burton, all of Garnett, Kansas, Pauline Jones, Bend, Oregon; one brother, Bill Tipton, Hermiston, Oregon; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, who died at the age of three, one sister and three brothers. Funeral services were Saturday, November 19, at the Consalus Chapel, Clinton. Burial was in Clinton Memory Gardens.
