Rachel Gaskill Wise Simpson, 93, formerly of Brevard, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at Covenant Village in Gastonia, NC.
Born in Topeka, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Zella Gaskill Wise and grandmother of the late Steven Peterson.
She was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church, O'Neill, Nebraska. She attended MacMurray College, in Jacksonville, Illinois, and graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa.
Rachel was secretary of The S&S Stores, Inc. and The M&R Distributing Co. She was a member of P.E.O., Chapter K, Gastonia, MacMurray College Alumni Association and served on the board of the O'Neill Library.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Merlin Clarence Simpson; son, Mark Simpson & wife Gaye of Seattle, WA; daughters Susan Drew & husband Steven of Charleston, SC; Barbara Blume & husband Ted of Lincoln, NE; sisters, Jean Douglas of Austin, TX, Patricia Heenan of Okemos, MI; grandchildren, Scott Peterson & wife Katie, Brian Peterson, Emily Harmon, Daniel Simpson, Adam Orsborn & wife Rachel, Paul Orsborn and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Mitchell, Andrew & Brynn Peterson.
