Norma J. Sutton, 76, of Kansas City, KS, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at Kansas City Hospice House. A Memorial Service was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Inurnment took place at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Norma was born on February 28, 1934 in Kansas City, KS to Joseph F. and Gladys (Grazier) Abernathy. She was a graduate of Washington High School. Norma worked for Farmers Insurance Co. for 56 years before retiring. She was an avid runner and jogger, many around the neighborhood knew her as the "72nd Street Jogger". She was a member of the U.S. Tennis Association. She devoted her spare time working in her yard, helping others and was often like the "Neighborhood Mom". Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mac Sutton; and one brother, Albert Abernathy. Survivors include her daughters, Jennifer Keith and her husband Larry, and Cindy Sutton; brother, Joe Abernathy; sisters, Doris Harris, and Gladys Eileen Evans and her husband Don. Left behind to cherish her memory are a granddaughter, Chey-Ann Sutton, and her faithful companion "Opie". The family would like to send a special Thank You to Kansas City Hospice House for the exceptional care they provided for their mother, and to Pastor Dan Eller for his spiritual guidance during this difficult time in their lives. They would also like to recognize Greg Abernathy and Darren Keith. Memorial arrangements were under the direction of Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, Kansas City, KS.
