PETERMANN, Roland age 93, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2011. Roland was born August 12, 1917 in Fredericksburg, TX.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Vivian; parents, Ernest and Minnie Petermann, and sister, Margaret Waugh. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Petermann; grandchildren, James Harwood of Bradenton, FL and Emily (Harwood) Ferris and husband, Mark, and great grandchildren, Adilynn, Lillian, and Hayden Ferris, all of Dayton, OH; brother, Lester Lee Petermann and wife, Joan of Culpepper, VA, and sister, Peggy Davis of San Antonio, TX, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Roland served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the Frederick C. Davis, which was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada on April 24, 1945. Roland was one of the few survivors of the attack and was honored with a Purple Heart. Roland was employed as an office manager with Nabisco for 42 years. His position with Nabisco moved him from San Antonio to Houston, TX, to New York City, NY to Pittsburgh, PA, and finally to Dayton, OH, where he managed the ice cream cone bakery from 1961 until his retirement. Roland was an active member of Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church for 50 years. Roland's kind, gentle spirit and love of family and friends will be greatly missed.

A service of Christian burial and celebration of Roland's life will be held at Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, 2841 E. Dorothy Lane, Kettering, OH. Family will receive friends with service to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church in Roland's name.
