Frederick "Buzz" C Dean, 82, of Superior passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Essentia Health St Mary's Hospice in Duluth, MN after a courageous battle with cancer. Buzz was a lifelong Superior resident, born Jan 30, 1929, the son of Florence (TePoel) and Charles "Bob" Dean.

He served in the Army as a tank mechanic during the Korean War. Buzz worked for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads for 43 years retiring as an engineer. He received the Carnegie Award for saving the life of a little girl on the Nemadji River.

Buzz was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Marjorie.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy; a daughter, Pam Dean-Luhm of Superior; a son, Scott (Lori) Dean of Neenah, WI; grandchildren, Ryan and Tanner Luhm; a niece, Georgia "Bunny" Esko of Cloquet, MN; and many cousins.

He will be remembered fondly by his family as a loving and helpful husband, father and grandfather.

Military honors will be accorded by the Richard I Bong American Legion Post No 435 at the memorial service. Inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
