The family emigrated in 1882 from Norway and then went for a short time to LaCrosse, Wisconsin, then to Otter Tail County. In 1906 the rest of her family moved from Otter Tail County to Velva, North Dakota and in 1910 to Saskatchewan, Canada. Dena stayed in Otter Tail County and married there.
