PhM3c Pasternik served with First Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division from the fall of 1944 to February 23, 1945. He was wounded in action during the battle of Iwo Jima.

David L. Pasternik, age 82, lifelong Downers Grove-Westmont area resident. David was a WWII Navy and Marine Veteran Pharmacist's mate Third Class. Served as a medic at the Battle of Iwo Jima. Received the Purple Heart as well as other Awards and Medals. A charter member of Post #9267 VFW of Westmont. Cherished son of the late Louis and Mary (Hofbauer) Pasternik; beloved brother of Theresa Toon; loving uncle of Nancy Toon, Edward (Susan) and Richard Pasternik; preceded by brothers Edward (Alice), Adrian (Helen) and Robert Pasternik.
