Marvin "Eddie" Fields, 51, of South Patrick Drive, Gray, died Thursday at his home after an extended illness.

He is survived in Greeneville by a daughter, Kelly M. Fields Christy.

Mr. Fields was a native of Johnson City, a son of Alma Taylor Fields and the late E.C. "Buck" Fields.

He was a brick mason, employed by the Veterans Administration at Mountain Home.

Mr. Fields was a member of Apostolic Christian Church.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and received a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Purple Heart, a Rifle Expert Badge, a Good Conduct Medal, a RVN Cross of Gallantry, and a Combat Action Ribbon.

Mr. Fields was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors, in addition to his mother and a daughter, include his wife: Marjorie Fields; a son: Kevin E. Fields of the home; another daughter: Jamie Bryant of Sophia, N.C.; five grandchildren; four brothers: Bill Fields of Johnson City, Earnest Fields of Hampton, and Kenneth Fields and Ted Fields, both of Johnson City; five sisters: Gladys Austin and Linda McCowan, both of Atlanta, Ga., Susie Laughren of Jacksonville, Fla., and Charlotte Taylor and Patsy Horton, both of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home in Johnson City.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 7 o'clock in the East Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Todd Fields will officiate.

A military graveside service will be held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning in Mountain Home National Cemetery.
