Dolores "Dee" Penberthy, 80, of Dallas died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Cumberland Extended Care Unit. She was born November 2, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN to Harry and Flossie (Mills) Jewett. She left school early to care for her ailing parents. She married George Almsted in 1948, the couple had 6 children and they later divorced. In addition to raising her family, Dee worked for many years at Honeywell. She met and later married William Nelson, the couple moved to the home on Lower Turtle Lake and owned and operated Billy Dee's tavern in Arland. He preceded her in death in 1992, and she sold the tavern in 1995. She was married in Barron, WI on August 28, 1998 to Robert Penberthy and retired in Hillsdale.
She is survived by: her husband, Robert "Yogi" Penberthy of Hillsdale; 2 daughters, Kathy (James) Cunningham of Minneapolis, MN; Laurie Huset of Barron; 3 sons, Leslie Almsted of St. Louis Park, MN; Greg Almsted of Barron; Michael (Carol) Almsted of Andover, MN; 26 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 3 stepchildren, Richard (Josie) Penberthy of Frederic Lynn (Pat) Bartlett of Prairie Farm Robert Penberthy, Jr of Barron and their families.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, George Almsted and William Nelson; her daughter, Deborah Almsted; sisters, Lorraine Kennelly, Jean McDonald and Ethel Mills.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday at Skinner Funeral Home - Turtle Lake with Rev. officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery - Turtle Lake. Pallbearers are Travis Almsted, Jason Almsted, Nathan Almsted, Brent Huset, Christopher Cunningham and Andrew Cunningham. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the service Saturday at the Skinner Funeral Home in Turtle Lake.
